The new year is approaching! Are you ready for what 2019 will bring?

This year could have been the worst for many or maybe it was the best. This year for me has been filled with a lot of pain as well as gains. In the beginning of the year till June, not many people knew what I went through. How would you know if I don’t write about it? I went through a lot of heartache and a spiritual awakening. It was really needed. Why? Well, throughout the years I lost my light, my spirit because of what I kept tolerating in my life and not putting myself first. I had to learn a lot to go through personal growth, such as letting go of toxic people (relationships and family members) who were not at all helping me. Instead they kept drowning me along with them.

I had goals for myself in the beginning of every year like others. Make more money, get out from debt, travel more, go to a new country, personally grow and be anxiety/depression free.

Did I meet my goals and succeed?

Yes.


I had to go through a spiritual awakening and release all the toxins that were inside of me. Mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I am so grateful that I had to let go of anyone and everything in the process. I wasn’t happy in my job anymore, I also wasn’t happy in my relationship. I wasn’t happy with myself and  anxiety and depression has returned after being depression free for seven years. Anxiety free for two years.

Although I didn’t have a place of my own after breaking up with an ex, I was ready to receive an abundance of happiness and for better things to come into my life.

After months of hard work  and reflecting, I decided to change my life and chase my dreams. I love traveling and connecting with people around the world. I enjoyed blogging in the past and I missed it.

So I created SweetSimplyJenny and I have been connecting with so many people around the world in this journey.


I got a new job where I am individually advising students, with work benefits and with people that I enjoy. I’ll get to travel to new cities like San Antonio, Texas (more content coming!) and I have flexibility with my schedule. I truly enjoy the kids I work with. I am happier.

I have a new home.

I was able to help buy a new house for my family and have my own space and my own queen bed because I deserve it and I worked hard for it. I’m treating myself. (Pictures and a blog post coming soon)

And my mental state?

I have never felt more confident and happier in my life. I am truly happy with life and I am resilient. I meditate, journal and do yoga almost every day.


With all that said, all this stuff that I have went through, I am here to say there were a lot of things I had to let go off to get where I am today. I want you to share with you what those are so that you can get rid of anything you don’t want to bring into the new year.

Start clearing up your life!

1. Toxic people including friends, family and acquaintances

Take charge of your life and how people treat you. If you feel as if they are not helping you, or you are giving more than you are receiving, let them go.

2. Past hurt or resentment

You should deep cleanse your soul. Let go of the resentment and grudges you still hold from one, five, ten years ago from people who did you wrong. You are drinking your own poison.

3. Old habits that don’t benefit you at all

Break your habits of procrastination, tardiness, self criticism to biting your nails. Any bad habits that you have developed over the years, start taking a step in eliminating it from your life. You are only hurting yourself in the long run and replace it with a healthy habit.

4. Clothes that you don’t wear anymore

Have you worn it in the past six months to a year? Get rid of it. There is no need for you to wear it, just in case. That also goes in with-

5. “Just in case” items

We all know that the “just in case” events don’t ever happen. Those things are there filling up space and over time are going to be lost in the clutter. Let it go and see how easy you can get something for when the “just in case” happens.

6. Negative self talk

You wouldn’t say bad things in front of someone’s face. Why do you say, “I am ugly, I am stupid, I’m not that great,” to yourself? Talking about yourself like that is detrimental to your confidence and mentality. Start replacing it with, “I am great, I am beautiful, I am handsome, I am awesome, etc.”

7. Junk in that drawer or that pile of paperwork on your desk

There is no need for you to still have that pile of unknown paperwork hidden in that folder in your closet. Review and go over that stack of paper that you have been putting on the back burner. Don’t welcome that junk into your new year.

8. That to do list of things that you’ve been neglecting to do since this past January

You have that coat to be dry cleaned but haven’t gotten to it? What about that dentist appointment, or changing your car tires? Maybe go visit the doctor? Anything that you have been prolonging to do, make it a priority before you let it go into the new year again.

9. A negative mindset

This can be from you waking up in the morning and hating to go to work. Or when you surround yourself with negative people. If you don’t like the way things are, start changing your mindset and realize how your thoughts make a huge impact in the way you go forward in life.

10. Caring about what others think about you

One thing I learned this year that I was grateful for is to stop caring about what others think. For the longest time I didn’t realize I was subconsciously caring what others thought about me and it affected areas in my life. It was so draining to keep up with the ideas or expectations others had of me when I didn’t realize I didn’t have my own identity locked down. Learn about yourself, be true to yourself and let go of others expectations of you. You will truly live a happier life.
