How To Rebuild Your Life and Start All Over After Losing Everything

Rebuilding a life that you once thought you had everything at one point is exhausting. I’ve been there before, maybe one too many times. As I sit here and write to you from a perspective on the outside looking in, I am able to tell you that rebuilding something of yours is difficult, yet necessary. Whether you lost someone or something important to you, the matter of fact is that this life is always going to test you. It’s going to give you everything you ever wanted (or you thought) and have you scrambling to catch a breath above water. It’s going to test you of how far and how much you are willing to go. Once you lost everything, it’s time to rebuild and reclaim your life. How does one do that? How does anyone start all over? What steps should I take? Well, I will tell you it won’t be easy. You most likely want to give up and probably feel embarrassed and shameful, but if you get over those tribulations and obstacles, you will get to taste this thing call rebirth.

I’d like to state that no matter the events that you are going through, there are steps that you can take in order for you to rebuild your life. It won’t be exactly where you were, in fact, it could be even more better as a result. However, it’s up to you to determine that factor. Will you sacrifice to get where you want to be? Do you have what it takes? Of course you do, that is why you are here. So now that we have established those expectations, let’s get started in the steps of how to rebuild and start all over.

1. Write down your outcome

You want to start thinking about your future and your goals. This is important to visualize. Take a moment to sit down, write down your ideal, and really take it in. This process is important and can help the attraction process of rebuilding what you want. What is it that you see as a result? Do you want to be happy? Do you want to have self confidence? Do you want to have a career that you love? Was is it that you want? Write it down.

2. Look for resources

When we are going through rough times, we need a support group. There is not one person who is successful who didn’t go through rough times and didn’t have one person there for support. Maybe they say they made “it” all by themselves, but “it” is something broad. People have resources, emotional support, money, time, a friend, parent, network, mentor, group, SOMETHING or SOMEONE that helped them in some small or big way. Look for the resources around you that can help you get where you want to be.

3. Take one step at a time

You aren’t going to make it there overnight. Rebuilding the life you want is going to take time. It may take weeks, months or even years. Who really knows? Rebuilding something whether it’s a career, relationship, house, self esteem, or trust, it’s going to take precious time and attention. This is an individual process that has no expiration date. It’s YOUR journey and no one else. So take one step at a time and try not to overwhelm yourself during the process.

4. Stay healthy and work out

Yes, workout! It’s time to get healthy and stay healthy. Work out the body whether it’s running, doing yoga, lifting weights or taking spin classes. Get your body moving. Put your body through different ways to release tension, stress and to just make yourself feel better. Don’t only think about working out but as well as the food you are consuming. What we consume is also important because what we feel on the inside will show on the outside.

5. Cry, smile and dress up

Sometimes we need to let it out. Whether you want to let out a good cry, then do it. If you want to talk to someone, do it. If you have some tension inside, do let it out in a healthy way. Once you have let it out, get up, smile and don’t forget to dress up. I am a big believer in the way that you dress makes you feel some way. If you dress in something you feel confident, then you will feel confident. If you dress in a way that you feel lazy, then you will showcase and feel lazy. Try to dress in a way that you WANT to feel. If you want to feel like a boss, dress like a boss. If you want to dress confident, then dress up in something that will make you feel good. Cry, smile and dress UP.

Well there you have it. Those are my ways on to rebuild and start over in whatever situation you could be in. As I mentioned before, I lost everything that I had at one point. I ended up having just two suitcases in my car, no home, no bed, no space of my own. I ended up having no confidence and had to rebuild my life over again. Did I make it out alive and better? YES I did and I am even more confident than I ever was. I am stronger mentally, emotionally and physically. You have to put in the work. Rebuilding your own life from ground up will have you feeling alive and motivated. There will be days that you will want to give up, overwhelmed, stressed and even tired. However, once you get over those barriers and days, you will notice you are brand new person. A better person, and you wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
